When to Visit Margarita Island: The Complete Guide

Margarita has sunshine all year round, but choosing the right month makes the difference between having the beach to yourself and sharing it with half of Caracas. Here is how each season works.

Two seasons, not four

The island has a tropical climate with two seasons: dry (November to April) and green or rainy (May to October). Temperatures stay between 26 and 33 °C year-round — what changes is the humidity, the wind, and the number of tourists.

December–March: official high season

The busiest and most expensive time of year. Venezuelans escape the Caracas heat, and international tourists peak in January and February. Beaches are full, but the atmosphere is festive and the island buzzes. Book well in advance — good apartments go weeks ahead.

November and April: the sweet spot

November and April are, in our opinion, the best months to visit. The weather is dry, beaches are nearly empty, prices are lower, and the island feels like it belongs to you. In November, the trade winds start cooling the air without becoming bothersome; in April, the sea is calm and the water colour is spectacular.

May–October: green season

Some afternoon showers, but mornings are almost always clear. Rates drop considerably and the island is quiet. If you can be flexible about the weather, it is an excellent option for savings. July and August weekends pick up with local tourism.

Carnival and Holy Week: special seasons

Carnival (late February or early March) is festive, loud, and full of colour — the island takes on a special energy worth experiencing at least once. Holy Week is similar: Venezuelan families, packed beaches, a celebratory atmosphere. Not the best time if you want peace and quiet, but the cultural experience is unique.

If you have flexibility, aim for the first week of November or the last week of April. Low-season prices, dry-season weather, no crowds.
